Desert Trek in Morocco from Marrakech 8 days 7 nights

Embark from Marrakech on an immersive journey deep into the desert. You will traverse the diverse landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains and the Djebel Bani, which will then give way to vast sand dunes where your days of trekking will begin, allowing you to explore the magnificent Moroccan Sahara.

PROGRAMME

Jour 1 : Marrakech

You will be welcomed upon your arrival at Marrakech airport and transferred to your 3-star hotel for the first night. Meals are not included, allowing you to explore the culinary delights of Marrakech at your leisure.

Day 2: Marrakech - Foum Zguid - Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi

In the early morning, we will depart in a 4x4 vehicle towards the Sahara. We will drive through the High Atlas Mountains and the Djebel Bani before reaching the palm grove of Foum Zguid. From there, we will continue on the track that leads to Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi and the dried-up lake of Iriki. Upon arrival at the bivouac, you will be welcomed with a refreshing mint tea and introduced to the camel caravan team that will accompany you throughout your immersive Sahara experience. You will spend the night in tents under the calm desert sky, surrounded by stars.

Approximately 7 hours and 460km of 4x4 driving.

Day 3: Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi - Erg El Mhazil

Once the camels are loaded, you will be guided to Erg El Mhazil, crossing a part of the dried-up lake. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at the foot of the large dunes, some of the highest in the Moroccan desert, where we will set up our camp. You will enjoy a magnificent sunset from the top of the dunes and have dinner around the campfire for a restful night.

Approximately 6 hours of walking.

Day 4: From Erg to Erg

In the vastness of the desert, we will trek from dune to dune, with each summit revealing a breathtaking panorama. As a backdrop to these expansive sandscapes, the Djebel Bani serves as a natural boundary between the Atlas Mountains and the desert. After a dinner prepared by the team, you will sleep in the tents of the bivouac.

Approximately 6 hours of walking.

Day 5: El Abdilya Dunes

We will cross an erg where tamarisk trees and a unique desert flora thrive. Here, you will encounter the bed of one of the tributaries of the Draa River. We will then reach the El Abidlya dunes, the largest dunes in the Moroccan Sahara. We will set up our bivouac for a well-deserved night's sleep.

Approximately 6 hours of walking.

Day 6: Khert Elgarzim Dunes

We will continue our trek accompanied by the camel caravan to the Khert Elgarzim dunes. We will cross a dried-up lake amidst the dunes, a resting place for nomads during the winter. We will enjoy an evening under the stars before sleeping in the tents of the bivouac.

Approximately 6 hours of walking.

Day 7: Khert El Garzim - Marrakech

After this total immersion in the desert like true nomads, it will be time to embark on the return journey.
