The Iriki Desert

PROGRAM

DAY 1: Foum Zguid - Moroccan Colorado - village of Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi - Erg El M'Hazil

Departure from Foum Zguid around 9am from your hotel or from the center of Foum Zguid. We will leave by 4x4 along the stony trail to reach the oasis of Laajirmia (about 1h drive) which offers a panoramic view of the tabular mountains called the Colorado of the Moroccan desert because of their shapes. Enjoy the shade offered by the date palms of the oasis, explore the surroundings for unique photographic shots.  Then we go back for 1 hour track to our guest house.

Our traditional auberge located 60km from Foum Zguid is in the heart of the Iriqui National Park, amidst vast expanses of nature and just next to the only nomadic village, where we are native. We will serve you a delicious lunch, in the shade of our terrace, cooked on site with fresh and local ingredients.  In the afternoon, you will leave accompanied by the dromedaries, on their backs or walking beside them, for a hike of about 2 hours to the dunes of Erg El Mhazil that can be seen from our guest house. You will cross the flat terrain of the old now dried up lake Iriki. Arrived at the bivouac in a very quiet place and far from the classic tourism, you will be greeted by the welcome tea and you can climb on the dunes to admire the blazing sunset.

After a good dinner and an evening by the fire to admire the starry sky, you can enjoy a good night’s sleep under the comfortable tents of the bivouac.

Day 2: Erg El M'Hazil - Foum Zguid

After a hearty breakfast in the open air, you will take the road back by 4X4 towards Foum ZGuid with several breaks on the way to contemplate the varied landscapes of the Iriki desert. The arrival at Foum Zguid is scheduled for late morning between 11am and 12pm.
