Train, bus, plane and taxi in Morocco: the means of transport to travel easily

Between the ultra-modern TGV, cheap bus lines, domestic flights and the unmissable "grand taxi", the Kingdom has a very complete network to connect major cities. The airports of Morocco: fast transport
Morocco has more than a dozen international airports strategically located to serve both major cities and the desert gates.
In northern Morocco
Casablanca (CMN - Mohammed V): It is the main hub of the country, with all major airlines and internal connections. Very well connected to the city centre thanks to a direct train line from the terminal.
Tangier (TNG - Ibn Battouta): Ideal to start a journey in the Rif or towards Chefchaouen.
Fès-Saïss (FEZ) & Nador : Very popular for low-cost flights from Europe, perfect for exploring the Northeast and historical medinas.
In southern Morocco
Marrakech (RAK - Ménara) : The most popular airport for travelers, it is only 15-20 minutes from the city center by bus or taxi.
Agadir (AGA - Al Massira) : The ideal gateway for lovers of surfing, beaches and Souss. The airport of Agadir has an interesting geographical position to quickly connect Marrakech or explore the south of Morocco. Train lines in Morocco
The Moroccan railway network, managed by the ONCF, is one of the most modern in Africa. It is the most comfortable and punctual way to travel between major cities. Prices are very affordable and travel restful. Currently the network of trains in Morocco focuses on the northern part of the country, north of the Atlas.
Al Boraq (TGV) : Connects Tangier to Casablanca (via Kénitra and Rabat) in just 2h10, at more than 300 km/h.
Classic lines (Atlas): Serve perfectly Marrakech, Fez, Meknes and Oujda.
Note: Remember to book your tickets online on the ONCF website a few days in advance for first class or to guarantee your place on board the TGV during rush hour.
By 2030, a high-speed rail link between Marrakech and Agadir is expected to be built, strengthening the tourist role of Agadir and access to the south.
Traveling by bus in Morocco
The bus is the most economical and the most extensive means of transport in Morocco. He goes where the train does not pass (Chefchaouen, Essaouira, Ouarzazate, the desert).
Bus companies
CTM: The national historical company. Comfortable buses, air conditioning, punctuality and online booking possible.
Supratours: ONCF’s road subsidiary. This is the ideal option because their buses are synchronized with the train schedules (for example, a combined Train + Bus ticket to make Casablanca - Essaouira).
Local companies: Present in bus stations. Cheaper, but schedules are more random and comfort is limited.
Throw the country
For long interurban journeys, always choose CTM or Supratours. A small fee is usually charged at the ticket office for checking in your hold luggage (expect between 5 and 10 MAD per bag).
In town
In the major urban areas (Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir, Rabat), modern urban bus networks (such as ALSA) serve all districts for a few dirhams.
Taxis in Morocco
It’s impossible to visit Morocco without taking a taxi. There are two quite distinct categories:
The small urban taxis
Use: Exclusively for travel within the same city.
Characteristics: They have a specific color depending on the city (red in Casablanca and Fez, ochre in Marrakech, blue in Rabat, yellow in Agadir). They have a maximum capacity of 3 passengers.
Golden rule: Always ask the driver to turn on the meter ("compteur, afak"). If he refuses, don’t hesitate to change taxis.
The large taxis / shared taxis
Use: To leave the city, take interurban roads or go to nearby villages.
Features: These are usually large vehicles (old Mercedes or modern sedans) that can carry up to 6 passengers.
Operation: They operate on a fixed route and only leave when they are full. If you do not want to wait or if you prefer more comfort, you can buy all the vacant places to privatize the vehicle. It will sometimes be necessary to arm yourself with patience to travel by large taxi, but it’s a good immersion in local life.

Rent a car in Morocco
Renting a car in Morocco offers total freedom, especially recommended to explore the South (the road of the Thousand Kasbahs, the gorges of Dades) or the Atlantic coast.
Driving & Network: The highway linking Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir is in excellent condition and paying. On the national ones, driving requires constant attention (pedestrians, animals, two-wheelers). Throughout the country, the main roads are maintained and more recent.
